Temple Fork Outfitters is preparing to introduce a new series of fly rods designed by Bob Clouser. These new rods, to be introduced this summer, will be part of Temple Fork's TiCrX family of rods. Available in line weights of 5 through nine, the Clouser rods will be 8 feet, 9 inches long and will retail for $224.95 to $249.95. "For years I have been looking for a multi-species fly rod that puts 'the ease' in casting weighted flies and sinking fly lines," Clouser said. "The fly rod designers at Temple Fork Outfitters answered this challenge by developing The Clouser Series of Fly Rods. "By no means a single species fly rod; I have caught many species of fresh and saltwater fish with ease on these prototypes. Anglers that use weighted flies or split shot should find this series ideal, dry fly fishers will also benefit from the rods ability to deliver tight loops and specialty casts required to present the fly. The eight foot nine inch length enables the design to perform as expected; light in the hand and super sensitive…I like to say, 'I can feel them breathing on the fly as they inhale it.' " All TFO rods feature an unconditional lifetime warranty. Simply return the damaged rod with $25 for shipping and handling, and the company will repair or replace your rod. For more information about The Clouser rods or any of our other fine products contact your local TFO dealer or visit our website at www.templeforkflyrods.com. |

The photos below are of my good friend and fellow fly fisher, Glen “Catch” Cormier. Why do we call him Catch? I call him Catch because he could catch a fish in a freakin mud puddle! Catch and I fished one day at Mountain Creek Lake in Callaway Gardens. As you can see, there were some BIG ole fish in that there lake and Catch put the hurt on them!

Gary and Wanda Taylor At the GCC Expo in Lake Charles last weekend I had the privilege of meeting Wanda and Gary Taylor. They are both members of the TFO design team, guides a-n-d Wanda is a casting instructor. She is absolutely stunning… and her cast ain’t bad either! Sorry Gary… Pictured below is the latest in the world of fly fishing fashion. Yep, that’s a shot of Wanda’s TFO pedicure. I just had to take a photo for the website. By the way, Wanda designed the TFO Casting for Recovery fly rod. Pretty cool, eh! Gary and Wanda are terrific folks and I really enjoyed chatting with them in Lake Charles. Hopefully, I’ll get to visit with them again in the near future. Here's a little update for you, both Gary and Wanda are Master FFF Certified Casting Instructors with Wanda being the first Woman ever to test for the title... much less pass the test! |

The biggest fly fishing event in the deep South this year takes place right here in Louisiana! The 3rd annual Federation of Fly Fishers Gulf Coast Expo, hosted by the Gulf Coast Council FFF, takes place at the Lake Charles Civic Center beginning Friday evening, May 15 and continuing all day Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17. Some of the biggest names in fly fishing and fly tying will be on hand, including: Stu Apte, Bob Popovics, Wanda Taylor and Nick Curcione! There are numerous workshops and seminars. The seminars are free, most of the novice workshops are also free, and the remaining workshops are of nominal fee... in fact, about 1/4 the price you'd pay for a commercial class. There's the Crawfish Boil on Friday night, the Cajun Feast Banquet on Saturday night, and fishing right on the premises for speckled trout and redfish. For registration and information, including complete list of activities by date/time, go to www.gulfcoastfff.org and click on "Conclave". That famous warmwater fly tyer Larry Offner at last years Gulf Coast Expo! (Rumor has it he'll be back this year!) |

Be sure and read my review of the "Cortland Brook Series" 10', 5 wt. fly rod. It can be found in the "Product Review" board of the Warm Fly Forum. It's a great rod for a great price! |

I went on a guided trip with Larry Babin from the Blue Ribbon Fly shop Wednesday. We lost count of how many rainbows I caught... but the catch of the day was a 20" brown. I was using a 10', 5 wt. Cortland Brook Series (new) rod and an Orvis Large Arbor reel loaded with Rio Gold fly line. The fly was one of Larry's special rigged, hot pink San Juan Worms. Take a look at the thread titled “The Mountain Home Saga Continues!” in the “General Discussion” board of the Warm Fly Forum. Footnote: Yesterday in Mountain Home my wife, Debbie, woke up quite sick with a terrible infected throat and was just feeling bad all over. I went to Blue Ribbon Fly Shop and asked Bob Cooke and Larry Babin if they knew where I could take Deb to the doctor. Not only did they personally find us a doctor, Larry took us there! Would Bass Pro or Cabelas do that for you? These folks take care of their customers! They go far beyond the normal full service fly shop. Shop from them if you’re in Mountain Home or shop from them online. Both the fly shop and the guide service is listed on my links page. Left: Bob Cooke, Blue Ribbon Fly Shop Owner Right: Me!

I’ll be in Mountain, Home, AR all next week, with my lovely bride, for a little R&R and coldwater fly fishing. While I’m there I will spend much time with Bob and Debi Cooke at the Blue Ribbon Fly Shop… Uncle Larry’s favorite fly shop! Of course, Mrs. Debbie and I will be sipping gourmet coffee at the Anglers Coffee Café with Missy and Larry Babin. I have a drift boat fishing trip planned with Larry Babin on Wednesday, he’s one heck of a guide. Sounds like a great week to me! Fishing reports to follow. You folks behave while I’m gone! Ron Mc and Jimmy Mayeux will keep an eye on things.
