Jose Wejebe, the host of a popular fishing TV show was killed Friday afternoon when his single-engine plane crashed near an Everglades City airstrip. He was a great fisherman and sportsman and he will be missed greatly.

Red Stick Day Fly Fishing Festival
When: Saturday, March 3, 2012
Time: 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Where: LDWF Waddill Outdoors Center, 4142 N. Flannery, Baton Rouge
Cost: FREE
This event features seminars, casting instruction, fly tying demos, kayak and canoe tryouts, food, raffle items, and much more.
Those new to the sport will want to attend the “Fly Fishing Basics” session at 9:00am, and later, get individual casting instruction from one of the casting coaches.
For those interested in the exciting sport of canoe and kayak fishing, there’ll be an opportunity to test ride different models exhibited by Backpacker of Baton Rouge. Green Trout Fly Shop will be on hand for folks to test out several of the popular TFO rod models.
Refreshments are free, and a jambalaya lunch is available for $5. There will also be a raffle featuring numerous fly fishing items and accessories to help raise funds for the club’s local conservation and outreach projects.
Programs range from "Kayak Fishing the Delta" by Brendan Bayard, a member of the Hobie Kayak Pro-Team, to "Dutch Oven Cooking" by celebrated cook and author Ed Braud. Oscar Feliu, of The Villages, Florida, who is nationally renown both as a musician (tenor, classical guitarist) and a fly tier, will demo "Life Cycle of the Caddis" and "Inshore Flies". Larry Offner, owner/founder of Warmfly.com, will do an on-the-water session on "Bluegill Tactics". Other presentations are "Casting and Coping With Wind" and "Redfish On The Fly".
Fly tiers from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida will be showcasing their craft during the day. They include Walt Holman, Dirk Burton, Marc Pinsel, Kirk Dietrich, Stephen Robert, Don Richardson, Ted Cabali, David Piche, Ray Boudreaux, Jerome and Dena Hebert, and Glen Davis.

An old favorite fly fishing show with a new look. Conway Bowman is the new host of Fly Fishing the World! Conway is one of my absolute favorite fly fishing personalities. I watched the first episode of FFTW this week and it was awesome. Conway's enthusiasm on the show is contagious. Don't forget to watch or set your DVR!
